Overlooking the Arabian Sea and guarding the coastline since 1612, the Fort Agauda was commissioned to protect against the Dutch and the Marathas. This old Portuguese fort is one of Goa’s most prominent landmarks and plays a crucial role in the movie ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ by Farhan Akhtar. The film starring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta and Sonali Kulkarni was shot extensively in and around the areas of the Aguada Fort and Lighthouse and has since made it a must-visit tourist spot for the Bollywood movie enthusiast. The song ‘Bolo na Bolo to Zara’ in the film ‘Shabd’ was shot at the fort. All sequences were shot at night and the director even talks about the ghost stories revolving around the place.
Another popular scene that film buffs are bound to remember is Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Khanna seen sitting atop the walls of the fort in ‘Dil Chahta Hai’. The place chosen was Chapora Fort.
