Feast of St. Francis Xavier
Feast of St. Francis Xavier or Goinchea Saibache Fest (as the saint was called goincho saib, meaning lord of Goa, locally) is one of the grandest festivals in Goa. It is celebrated in the first week of December at Old Goa to commemorate the day of death of the revered saint. Thousands of street vendors put up their stalls all along the roads selling a panoply of souvenirs, trinkets, food and drinks. This gala feast lasts nine days on which the place is inundated with millions of people from all over the world come to attend the mass and join in the cheer.
